Resident Evil 2 Remake will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019.
The launch date was revealed at the end of a trailer that debuted during Sony’s E3 press conference. Instead of featuring a first-person perspective like Resident Evil 7, the remake of Resident Evil 2 has a third-person over-the-shoulder camera like Resident Evil 4.
According to Capcom, the game has been completely rebuilt using the RE Engine—the same engine used to power Resident Evil 7—and features “modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.” Both Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield will be playable via their own distinct storylines.
Resident Evil 2 was released on the original PlayStation back in January 1998. Hideki Kamiya was the game’s director, with Shinji Mikami sliding over into a producer role. It eventually made its way to PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and GameCube.
